BRTRC, a government contractor specializing in the Department of Defense, is seeking qualified candidates for a Financial Management Specialist opportunity in support of the Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. Work involves a variety of duties in a professional environment supporting financial managment and budget related tasks supporting the RDECOM G8 resource management team to manage distribution and obligation of SBIR funds. The position requires excellent customer service skills in working closely with government clients, small businesses, and team members. This full-time , entry-level position is contingent on contract award and will be located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.




  • Monitor execution of fiscal year funds to facilitate SBIR program decisions
  • Plan contingencies across multiple organizations to ensure 100% budget obligation by Fiscal Year end
  • Prepare funding documents to disburse SBIR funds to various contracting organizations
  • Maintain financial records in web-based system, including incrementally funded awards, Phase I and II obligations, and option exercised
  • Manage and prepare Phase I and II award data for annual DoD reports
  • Review summary reports submitted by small businesses and approve for public release
  • Support new Phase I contractors by conducting program assistance calls to educate and inform new awardees of procedural, technical and contractual concerns
  • Assist Program Coordinators in the process awarded contracts from all Army and Defense-wide programs.
  • Assist with help desk services to provide timely and accurate answers to questions from small businesses, program coordinators, and Government personnel.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business with an accounting concentration
  • At least 2 years of recent relevant experience
  • Knowledge of Government accounting systems, processes, and terms
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical ability and problem solving skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills and attention to detail
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Strong organizational skills to efficiently perform multiple tasks and balance competing priorities
  • Current DoD security clearance
